Music Education Administrator needed for Creative Music School

Does a job that blends creative music education with detail-oriented admin sound like music to your ears?

Our ideal admin candidate has a background in music, a passion for education and an organized nature. This role is a great fit for music educators, former educator/counselors with some music training, or musicians with an administrative streak and a longing to make a positive difference in the world. (This full time job is a combination of admin work during the day and teaching beginner lessons in the afternoons – we train! We do also have a part-time admin only option.)

About Us: A Culture of Creating and Learning
The inclusive, creative teaching community at Meridee Winters School of Music has been known and loved on the Main Line for the past 30 years. Founded in 1990, Meridee’s groundbreaking curriculum is one of a kind and published worldwide - it empowers students and teachers to take their music beyond the page and explore creatively. Our school mission is "We learn adventurously, create playfully and perform courageously." We are a woman-run entrepreneurial company and practice strengths-based leadership and teamwork. You can learn more about us at http://mwschoolofmusic.com.

Your role
This role is part of our music administration "backstage team" that supports our busy Main Line students/families and our creative musical faculty. It is a combination of scheduling coordinator, detail detective, teacher mentor and relationship builder. As a backstage team member, you will be a maestro of first impressions, the composer of calendars/schedules and keeper of the rhythm: keeping the school running in time and in tune.

What You’ll Do Every Day

  • Work in our Ardmore, PA headquarters with our backstage team
  • Craft strategic and streamlined teacher schedules
  • Process attendance
  • Provide customer service/speak with parents by phone about our school (and their goals and dreams for their kids)
  • Maintain and streamline online systems and websites
  • Give teaching advice to our awesome (but newer) teachers
  • Help maintain our music library
  • Help organize our stellar shows and monthly teacher master classes (this might occasionally include a last minute kazoo-run)

Experience, skills & requirements

  • College degree, with a minimum 3.0 GPA and studies in music or education, preferably both. (Our ideal candidate has a music education degree and/or classroom experience.)
  • Music experience/knowledge and, preferably, the ability to teach some lessons. (Advanced music skills not required, as most of our students are adorable early grade-schoolers. In other words: no need to play Rachmaninoff, but we'd love for you to know your theory basics, be able to read music at a beginner level and maybe even draw a sweet treble clef.)
  • Ability to effectively engage with a range of personalities, including busy parents and creative teachers
  • Excellent written, in-person and telephone communication skills
  • Reliable-follow through and delivery
  • Positivity, optimism and resilience
  • Proficiency in Google Drive, database entry, mobile and desktop platforms
  • Transportation: a car, as we do run various errands that require a vehicle
  • Location: Lives nearby with less than a 15-20 minute commute from our Ardmore Headquarters.

Hours, schedule, compensation

  • This role would be 20-30 hours per week of admin work plus an additional 8-12 hours per week of teaching if seeking a full-time position. (Exact hours and schedule are negotiable and can be arranged upon hiring.)
  • We host one evening teacher workshop per month and weekend shows seasonally
  • Our vacation breaks generally coincide with local school breaks
  • Compensation: $22-$25/hour, depending on experience for admin and $33/hour for teaching.
  • Package also includes a health stipend and PTO
