Systems Manager

Essential Functions 

Ensure the day-to-day operation of the library’s IT infrastructure, including LAN networks, data backup, disaster mitigation, e-mail, remote connections, phones, servers, PCs, and web site administration. 

Serve as the primary contact with the managed service provider of IT services. 

Develop and prioritize long-term projects to ensure the continuing compatibility and interoperability of systems. 

Oversee the successful completion of any grant-funded digital projects, including cross-institutional initiatives. 

Ensure consistency and sustainability of existing hardware and software by creating, maintaining, and communicating standards/procedures and troubleshooting technical issues. 

Liaise with users, library staff, operations, and programming personnel in the areas of systems design and implementation, modifications, or troubleshooting. 

Work with library staff to ensure digital assets are secure, accessible internally and externally, and meet accepted archival standards for long-term stewardship. 

Stay abreast of emerging technologies and best practices. 

Experience, Education, and Licensure 

Degree in Computer Science, Library and Information Science, or a related field. 

Experience administering systems and platforms such as WordPress and Islandora, as well as other library and archival platforms like Koha and ArchivesSpace. 

Back-end web administration, including working knowledge of HTML, CSS, PHP, Linux Command Line, and MySQL database management. 

Project management certification, or experience with managing multiple projects. 

Knowledge of server architecture, business networks, and security. 

Experience with system migration projects. 

Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis, and computer hardware/software systems. 

Strong communication, writing, and analytical skills. 

Experience in special collections library environment preferred. 

Overview   
The Library Company of Philadelphia is seeking a versatile and service-oriented Systems Manager to oversee and maintain our information systems and technological operations.  
 
The Systems Manager is responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of all local systems, including but not limited to the local area network (LAN), backup and storage infrastructure onsite and in the cloud, Islandora-based digital repository, integrated library system (ILS, Koha), website and online resources, office technologies, and event audio/visual hardware. 

The primary focus of this role is on the day-to-day operations and long-term management, with potential longer-term projects such as a migration to an updated release of Islandora (or comparable DAMS), and the comprehensive rollout of Microsoft Office 365. 

This position reports to the Director of the Library Company.
