Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator undertakes promotion, media coordination, and the production of publicity and marketing materials for Al-Bustan and its programs. Communicating with stakeholders in a timely fashion the Marketing and Communications Coordinator executes strategies aimed at increasing Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture’s revenue and reputation, while seeking opportunities for strategic enhancement of marketing and communications processes.  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Outbound Material Production 

  • Manage social media accounts: create daily content on Facebook and Instagram, as well as more occasionally on Twitter 
  • Create and publish Al-Bustan’s Weekly Bulletin (email campaigns/e-blasts) 
  • Collaboratively create and update website content, including its “store”  
  • Create posters and similar promotional tools for in-house and sponsored programs 
  • Update website content and analyze usage on a regular basis

PR Media Contact

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets/journalists to secure coverage and maximize exposure. 
  • Retain external marketing support, including publicist(s), to deliberately increase the organization’s reach, appeal, and influence 
  • Monitor media coverage and sentiment related to Al-Bustan, providing timely reports and recommendations for response or strategy adjustments. 

Planning Assessment

  • Assess and report on social media, website, bulletin, and News Service analytics on a regular basis 
  • Employ practices and procedures to increase attendance of Al-Bustan events, programs, courses, and camp 
  • Employ practices and procedures to enhance engagement with Al-Bustan via website, social media, visitation to the Hub, or otherwise. 

Internal Collaboration

  • Discuss matters of strategy, payment, and final approval with the Executive Director 
  • Support delivery of events, especially as relates to promotion, documentation, and sales 
  • Collaborate with appropriate colleagues in domains of presentation, education, and civic engagement and on matters of advertising and sales 

Qualifications: 

Required: 

  • Combination of education and/or relevant professional experience of 4+ years 
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and/or other document/graphic design applications 
  • Experience with marketing via social media platforms and traditional media 
  • Familiarity with Arab and/or Southwest Asian North African (SWANA) languages and cultures 
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Interests in the arts, education, and/or civic engagement 

Preferred: 

  • Experience in writing articles, press releases, and designated copy 
  • Experience with Squarespace, specifically knowledge of content creation and e-blasts 
  • Experience in data collection and utilization 
  • Experience in the nonprofit sector 
  • Knowledge of Philadelphia Arts and Culture sector 
  • Knowledge of Qgiv 

Working Conditions: 

  • Administrative/program space, known as Al-Bustan’s Hub, is located at 3645 Lancaster Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19104. A hybrid schedule is possible with Executive Director approval. 
  • General work hours are from 9 am to 5 pm, with work sometimes required on weeknights or weekends as needed for programming, typically once or twice a month. 
  • Hours of work to be tracked in a timesheet; excess of 40 hours per week can be compensated with time off to be taken within the following four weeks and scheduled in consultation with Executive Director and team members. 
  • Adherence to Al-Bustan’s “Code of Conduct” is required at all times while working with Al-Bustan. 
  • Coordination of Al-Bustan’s calendar of activities with employee’s schedule outside of Al-Bustan is expected throughout the year. 
  • Attending weekly staff meetings and other meetings with staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers as needed. Coordinating and communicating throughout workdays via MS Teams and Email. 

Benefits: 

  • 5 personal days and 12 holidays (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, New Year, July 4, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Eid Al-Adha, Eid Al-Fitr, Good Friday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day); 2 weeks (10 days) vacation. Vacation and personal days from the prior contracted year will carry over unless used but should be used within the first 3 months of the next contract year.

Compensation: 

  • A starting annual salary of $46,000. 
  • Employee transportation other than to/from work first work location on a given day is reimbursed at the federal rate. 
  • Based on job performance and the organization’s financial resources, raises are assessed annually.
