Museum Educator Apprentice

*This is a Part-time non-exempt, role working 3-8 hours per week, from October 2024-May 2025

The Rosenbach Museum & Library seeks a part-time Museum Educator Apprentice to teach virtual lessons to high school students as part of a new program launching in the spring of 2025. Participating high school students will expand and deepen their appreciation and understanding of history and literature by exploring primary source material from the Rosenbach's collections. Students will engage with early editions, personal letters, diaries, and drafts by a wide range of renowned authors, such as Geoffrey Chaucer, Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, Toni Morrison, and many more. This interactive program will give students the opportunity to see the Civil War from a new vantage point while reading a letter from a soldier to his young children and gain deeper knowledge about relations between Indigenous peoples and European colonists after delving into handwritten treaties.

The successful candidate is just beginning their career as a museum educator. The position is ideal for someone without practical experience working with young people in museums. Prior to teaching the virtual lessons, the Museum Educator Apprentice will receive extensive training on object-based teaching methods. They have an interest in sharing primary resource material with high school audiences. They will have strong presentation skills, a positive attitude, commitment to engaged teamwork, and the flexibility essential to success in a small cultural nonprofit.
