Technical Director

The Technical Director coordinates all main stage and educational productions and events for Quintessence Theatre.  This position will be responsible for scheduling work calls, ordering supplies, and coordinating various production departments. This position hires the technical crew and works with the management team to make sure the technical elements of a show are completed safely, on time, and on budget. Night and weekend work is required during production periods.

Duties include:

● Schedule labor for all production and shop needs at the Sedgwick Theater.

● Facilitate communication between artistic and production teams.

● Manage production calendars ensuring timelines stay on track.

● Negotiate pricing and procure all technical elements needed for each production.

● Ensure that all QTG productions maintain standards of artistry.

● Ensure timely completion of construction of scenic elements, load-in, lighting, and sound installation, as well as strike and proper restoration.

● Supervise load-ins and load-outs to ensure care of the Sedgwick Theater and lobbies.

● Supervise events and education programs held in the Sedgwick Theater.

● Coordinate annual maintenance of building systems (HVAC, alarm, etc.)

Qualifications:

● Exemplary communication skills, both oral and written.

● Experience leading and managing groups of artistic and production collaborators.

● Mastery of common office software, especially Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, and Zoom.

● Proficiency in CAD software (VectorWorks, Visio) and Adobe Creative Cloud applications preferred.

● Ability to refer to architectural and electrical plans, diagrams, local code requirements, equipment manuals, contracts, show riders and other available documents in preparing and executing production plans and designs.

● Ability to create and edit CAD drawings of event designs and setups to detail necessary resources and plans for the load-in and implementation of productions and special events. 

● Mastery of Google Drive, Dropbox, and other file-sharing platforms.

● Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

● Experience in various production disciplines, including carpentry, rigging, sewing, lighting, sound, and projections.
