Life Model

The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) seeks motivated applicants to contract as figure models for drawing, painting, and sculpture classes. Working from life models is a long standing tradition at PAFA. With extensive programming focused on the use of models, we pride ourselves on offering contracts with consistent work and professional practices.

Qualified applicants must be punctual, hygienic, and physically capable of holding a pose for up to twenty minute periods, and professional in their demeanor. Class schedules are primarily mornings (8:15-11:20am) and afternoons (12:45-3:50pm) Monday through Friday, with some evenings and weekends. Experience with figure modeling in not necessary, but preferred. All physiques, genders, and ages 18+ are encouraged to apply. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Punctual and hygienic.
  • Collaborative and willing to work with faculty.
  • Capable of holding poses up to 20 minutes in length.
  • Taking unclothed and clothed poses, which may include: strenuous gestures, standing, seated, or reclining poses.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or an equivalent, or over 18 years of age.
  • May not be currently enrolled in secondary education or taking courses at PAFA.
  • Figure modeling experience is not required but preferred. Applicants with other dynamic body practices such as dance, martial arts, yoga, acrobatics, or other athletics are also encouraged to apply.
  • Good communication with an ability to calendar and follow a determined schedule.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to collaborate.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • List any specific attributes of the working environment.
  • Studio classroom environment with approximately 8-20 people.
  • Unclothed and clothed posing throughout the year. Heaters and fans are provided to accommodate for comfort throughout the seasons. 
  • Figure models provided with a changing room.
