Lead Teacher for TEEN ARTIST HANGOUT (Portside Arts Center @ Cherry Street Pier)

Portside Arts Center seeks Lead Teachers for our TEEN ARTIST HANGOUT class at Cherry Street Pier.

Portside Arts Center is a 501c3 nonprofit community art center located in the Port Richmond/Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. We provide a creative and nurturing environment that empowers the artists of tomorrow and creates lifelong patrons of the arts. Through dynamic visual arts programming, we encourage students to be globally-minded citizens and fearless artists.

The Teen Artist Hangout is a visual arts program for young people between the ages of 11 and 17. The program will run most Saturdays during the school year from 12 PM to 3 PM.

The workshops will allow students to expand their artistic skill sets as well as to investigate their individuality and unique identities. Students will be introduced to local and international artists while exploring different materials and techniques used in traditional and contemporary art making. Every month, we introduce a different theme, and each lesson builds upon new skills each week.

During these workshops, students have the opportunity to complete different portfolio requirements needed to apply to  various creative high schools and colleges. Students will create works of art that display their technical skills such as self portraiture, still life, and figure drawing.

Monthly Themes:

September - Picasso Party!

October - Figure Drawing

November - Anime & Comics

December - Jewelry Making

January - Portraiture

February - Sculpture

March - Painting

April - Murals & Public Art

May - Claymation
