Job Summary (What I do for Fleisher) Under the direction of the Director of Education and with your colleagues in the programs department, craft, execute, and manage Fleisher’s programming for children and youth consistent with the goals and objectives outlined in Fleisher’s strategic plan. Develop and be held accountable for an annual program budget. Recruit, hire, evaluate, and manage Fleisher’s faculty and provide support to them as they design curricula and teach art courses. Attract, encourage and enlist students to participate in our programs, and ensure their experience at Fleisher is positive and rewarding. Collect and use data to inform your work, and evaluate programming quality, content, and personnel, making improvements and changes based on prudent rationale and recognized arts education standards. Know Fleisher’s faculty and students well and support their pursuits for personal fulfillment at Fleisher.
Additional duties include program research, attendance at various board and staff meetings, and other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Relative importance General Program Design, Planning, and Management 30% Develop program content consistent with Fleisher’s vision, mission, and all program expectations. Establish goals with specific, measurable results and continually measure progress in achieving them, fine-tuning efforts to ensure progress is made. When necessary, troubleshoot difficulties and/or respectfully realign expectations. Write curriculum and amend as necessary to adapt to changing needs of the program. Support faculty by collecting and evaluating lesson plans and curricula. Maintain program manuals, policies, and procedures. Ensure program quality throughout the year. Support staff with feedback and stepping in with classroom management when needed.
Develop and provide professional development goals that prepare faculty to deliver the highest quality experience for students at Fleisher. Recruit, hire, orient, and evaluate faculty and teaching assistants, including all new hire paperwork with appropriate clearances as required by state law. Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and supervise program support staff which may include: Teen Lounge Coordinator, Summer Coordinator, Creative Labs Coordinator and/or interns. Schedule and document annual evaluations, provide Programs Director with annually updated job descriptions.
Proactively and constructively address issues that seriously impact instructors and the program.
Track staff attendance and arrange for substitutes.
Develop budget(s) annually, with approval of Director of Education. Stay within the designated budget. Handle invoicing for contracted artists.
Work collaboratively with Director of Education and Registrar to set annual earned revenue goals for tuition and fees.
Oversee documentation and evaluation of the program. Ensure the program is managed consistently with grant requirements. If needed, meet with Funders, ensure grant requirements and outcomes are being met, and work with development staff on interim and final reports.
Address any immediate issues that occur within youth programs, including but not limited to: fielding parent and faculty concerns, and emergency issues as needed.
Manage and Execute Saturday Young Artist Program 20% Plan Fall, Winter, and Spring terms, taking into account class sizes, room availability, and feedback from faculty and students Work with Education Coordinator to oversee the ordering of supplies for individual classes and program-wide needs, including general supply cabinets and sketchbooks Support Registrar with:
Organize at least one yearly professional development session for Saturday faculty. Manage and Execute Creative Labs After School Program 20% Plan terms as aligned with Philadelphia Public School District calendar, taking into account student and faculty needs, room availability, and feedback from faculty and students Coordinate collection of student information, organizing student pick-up routes and staffing, and all communication between families and Fleisher
Organize at least one professional development/faculty meeting per term
Oversee ordering and re-stocking of snacks for after school students
Participating in pick-ups as needed
Manage and Execute Summer Youth Workshops 20% Plan 6-week summer term, including staffing, budget, and class descriptions, taking into account past programming successes, student and faculty feedback, and room availability
Work with the Director of Education and Education Coordinator to coordinate space usage
Coordinate the collection of student information, disseminating appropriate information as needed to faculty and staff, and all communications between families and Fleisher
Special Events 5% Plan, organize, and coordinate the annual Children and Youth Open house in conjunction with the Manager of Community Partnerships and Special Events Manager
Working with the Donor Engagement Officer, distribute Ella King Torrey applications to all eligible youth students, promote participation, organize communication and promotion of the winner, and communicate with all entrants
Other Duties 5% Submit bi-weekly payroll for all youth programs mentioned above.
Work with Exhibitions Manager on Annual Young Artists’ Exhibition, including communicating with faculty, collection of work, and promotion of the show.
Work with Communications Director to market programs and to capture stories that illustrate the impact of programs. When necessary, review, and revise program content and faculty information for print, web, and social media.
Work with Development Director on providing information as required for grant applications.
Communicate with Education Coordinator and Studio Technicians to ensure high functioning studios and equipment.
