Teen Lounge Teaching Artist

Teen Lounge at Fleisher Art Memorial is accepting project proposals from teaching artists for month-long, paid teaching residencies!

Teen Lounge is a free, drop-in after school arts program providing young people ages 13-19 with opportunities to meet and collaborate with working Philly artists, both virtually and IRL. Our Spring term runs from March 7-May 4: for scheduling and compensation details, read on.

Your proposal should offer young people an exciting opportunity to explore a theme or medium of relevance to their age group. Past workshop topics have included sewing plush monsters, GIFs as an art form, beatmaking, character design, stickers and wheatpaste street art, and more!

Workshops are 4 weeks long (8 hours of instruction total) and will be held once a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00pm. 6-12 students attend our workshops daily, from a variety of levels in art making experience and access to materials -- due to the drop-in structure of the program, the class group can vary from session to session. Please keep this in mind when designing your workshop! Teaching artists may also share resources with students via our Discord server.

The submission deadline is Monday, January 31 at midnight. After submitting a proposal, 8 artists will be invited to attend a mandatory, virtual Proposal Fair scheduled for Monday, February 7 from 4-6pm on Zoom (compensated w/ $25 gift card) to meet Teen Lounge students and give a brief presentation on their idea. Students will then vote to select which projects to run for the term. Students will be selecting 4 visiting artists (2 in-person, 2 virtual), who are each compensated at $589 total.
