Teen Lounge Teaching Artist

Teen Lounge at Fleisher Art Memorial is accepting project proposals from teaching artists for paid virtual residencies for our Summer term! Teen Lounge is a free, drop-in after school arts program providing young people ages 13-19 with opportunities to meet and collaborate with working Philly artists.

In light of COVID-19, all Teen Lounge programming has been moved online - we're seeking four teaching artists to share their knowledge, creativity and inspiration in this new virtual realm. Our summer term runs from June 21 to July 30: for scheduling and compensation details, read on!

Your proposal should offer young people an exciting opportunity to explore a theme of relevance to their age group, or experiment with materials they can access easily at home. Please also keep in mind that many of our students are coping with a lot of change and uncertainty right now - so upholding a flexible, low-stress and uplifting environment for our youth is key! Providing multiple levels of engagement for teens (like actively participating in the project, just watching, or following written instructions on their own time) will make a strong proposal.

The submission deadline is Sunday May 30. After proposals have been reviewed, 8 artists will be invited to attend a mandatory proposal review fair scheduled for Monday, June 7, 4:00-6:00pm (compensated w/ $25 stipend) to meet Teen Lounge students and give a brief presentation on their idea (3-5 minutes). Students will then vote to select which projects to run for the Summer term. Students will be selecting 4 visiting artists, who are each compensated at $425 for 6 hours of instruction, 6 hours of prep and 1.5 hours creating a project worksheet.

Workshops will be held on Zoom, once a week for three consecutive weeks, on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00pm. 5-10 students attend our Zoom calls daily, from a variety of levels in art making experience and access to materials -- due to the drop-in structure of the program, the class group can vary from session to session. Please keep this in mind when designing your workshop!

Teen Lounge seeks to be an inclusive and generative space for youth and adults of all identities and backgrounds - people of color, women, LGBTQ individuals, people with disabilities, and others who may contribute to the diversification of ideas are strongly encouraged to apply!
