Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance

#LightsOn Social Media Toolkit

Please find social media assets created for our “Lights On” Advocacy Campaign below, co-sponsored with Philly Culture United. Initially, this campaign was meant to focus on driving supplemental funds to the Philadelphia Cultural Fund. Now, in addition to that, we must call for immediate economic relief at the local, state, and federal levels. Please leverage your social platforms, using the hashtag #LightsOn, to help us illuminate our impact in a moment when we now face a mandated darkness.

Action is needed to keep the #LightsON for Philadelphia’s arts and culture ecosystem!

Throughout 2020, our vibrant arts and culture sector has unified Philadelphians in times of uncertainty. And yet, the arts in Philly STILL remain in crisis.

While no one argues with the City of Philadelphia’s desire to protect public health during the COVID-19 pandemic, its decision to close museums and libraries and prohibit “all indoor gatherings and events involving people from more than one household” through January 1, 2021, will threaten arts and culture even more than the initial COVID-19 shutdown of the spring.

Our sector has continued to engage in vital day-to-day work addressing critical areas of social impact, such as racial justice, mental health, anti-violence, and more. Arts and culture is essential to the City of Philadelphia and our shared humanity. Without our sector, the City of Philadelphia will not fully recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

That is why #PhillyCultureUnited and @philaculture have teamed up to create #LightsON - an action campaign to illuminate the importance and impact of arts and culture in our community.

We must remind City Council of the incredible life-changing and life-affirming social impact the arts and culture sector has for us all. TAKE ACTION and send a letter to City Council now!

Without full understanding of the painful economic and social impact that a continuing shutdown of arts and culture will have on the Philadelphia region, we are left to brace for a winter of mandated darkness, without a single word or discussion of immediate economic relief for arts and culture.

From joyful dancing in early voting lines to the DJ at 12th and Arch, the last few weeks saw arts and culture unite our city. Arts and culture once again lifted us up, and became the ground upon which so many Philadelphians passionately stood together. And yet still the arts in Philly remains in crisis.
