Director of Financial Aid

Status:             Exempt

Position:          Director of Financial Aid

Reports to:      Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration

Purpose:          Manages and directs the activities of the Financial Aid Office as a customer service based operation, while ensuring that compliance with federal and state regulations is met and that the recruiting and retention efforts of the College are advanced. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years experience in financial aid or student financial services setting, including 1 or more years in a supervisory role.
  • Extensive student counseling experience and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of students and parents regarding financial aid.
  • Knowledge and support of the role of financial aid in the student recruitment and retention processes.
  • Knowledge of computer based financial aid packaging and reporting systems; preferably Powerfaids.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to provide a high level of customer service to students.

Responsibilities:

1.  Administer financial aid programs, as appropriate, in accordance with;

      a.  Federal and state regulations

      b.  College recruitment and retention efforts.

      c.  Other guidelines, as required.

2.  Prepare all reports related to financial aid as required by the federal and state governments, as

well as other funding agencies.

3.  Counsel students (both prospective and returning) and their parents about their financial aid awards and options.

4. Monitor financial aid expenditures during the academic year and projected expenditures during the award cycle and prepare reports as required or requested on such expenditures or projected expenditures.

5.  Conduct all entrance and exit counseling sessions for students with loans; process all loan applications and certify all loans.

6.  Propose adjustments to the financial award matrix when necessary to ensure competitive and appropriate awarding strategies; work closely with the Dean of Admissions, as needed, on this process.

7.  Manage the process of electronic reporting and receiving of information with the Department of Education and the National Student Loan Data Clearinghouse.

8.  Ensure that the annual application for Title IV status is prepared and submitted in a timely manner.

9.  Direct the efforts of the Financial Aid Counselor in supporting the activities of the office.

10.Serve as an active participant on various College committees and task forces as assigned.
