Mural Arts Philadelphia is the nation’s largest public art program of its kind, dedicated to the belief that art ignites change. For over 30 years, Mural Arts has united artists and communities through a collaborative and equitable process, creating nearly 4,000 artworks that have transformed public spaces and individual lives. Mural Arts aims to empower people, stimulate dialogue, and build bridges of understanding with projects that attract artists from Philadelphia and around the world, and programs that focus on youth education, restorative justice, mental health and wellness, and public art and its preservation. Mural Arts Philadelphia is seeking a Manager for the Mural Arts Institute. This position is a nearly three-year grant funded position going through December 31, 2022. Continuation is contingent upon securing new resources. During this three-year period, the Manager will dedicate significant time to implementing the Public Art & Civic Engagement Capacity Building Initiative and a portion of the Art & Environment Capacity Building Initiative. With these initiatives, Mural Arts will provide capacity building and technical assistance to individual artists and organizations in six locations outside of Philadelphia. Specifically, we will invest in their ability to use public art as a catalyst for community engagement, leadership, and stewardship in advancing goals they have identified with their communities. The Manager may also be assigned to support client relationships outside of the two Initiatives.

The Mural Arts Institute is dedicated to knowledge-sharing, field-building, and expanding innovation within socially engaged art. Over time, the Institute will grow to include a range of activities, including workshops and symposia hosted in Philadelphia and other cities, consultancies, internships and residencies, publications, and public programs targeting artists and practitioners. We believe that by investing in the development and growth of artists, organizations, and partners working in the field of socially engaged art, we enhance our ability to ignite change through art and to learn and grow alongside those participating in our offerings.

The Mural Arts Institute Manager is responsible for the following, primary roles:

· Assist with the design of learning agendas for client engagements

· Serve as the first point of contact for initiative partners and clients and provide ongoing support

· Coordinate the internal teams necessary to execute learning agendas for clients

· Collaborate to develop curriculum, content, presentations, and toolkits for trainings, workshops, symposia, and other gatherings

· Develop trip itineraries for visits to client cities

· Travel to client cities to coordinate and support colleagues, and directly deliver content as needed

· Represent Mural Arts and the Institute at conferences and other professional gatherings

· Compile and share resources that may assist clients, including resources developed outside of Mural Arts

· Implement data collection procedures designed as part of evaluations

· Participate in routine internal team meetings to assess progress, share learnings, trouble-shoot challenges, and discuss big picture directions for the Institute

· Develop and monitor budgets

· Manage outside consultants hired to support specific aspects of the work

· Support Institute communications and storytelling by helping produce and manage a to-be-launched digital hub

· Produce proposals in response to inquiries about the Institute’s services

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years experience in project management, program development, client relations, and/or teaching and curriculum development. They are an experienced culture traveler, a highly inquisitive learner with advanced interpersonal and communication skills, who is also proficient at problem solving, teambuilding, and collaboration. This individual should have a strong interest and experience in the issues and fields Mural Arts covers. The candidate must be highly organized self-starter who is able to work independently and achieve success in a fast-paced environment. The candidate should be committed to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion at the workplace and in his/her body of work. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required.

Travel is required periodically for the purposes of delivering services individually or part of a team to clients, attending conferences, or leading public workshops mostly nationally. Trips are frequently organized in 2 to 4 day periods and can be planned as often as 2 or 3 times a month. Travel may cross weekends and, on occasion, holidays to accommodate meeting schedules. Anticipated travel requirements are the equivalent of roughly five days per month on average, with some months not requiring any travel at all.
