Manager of Audience Development

The Manager of Audience Development is responsible executing the strategy and marketing tactics outlined by the department to attract, retain, and engage audiences for the Curtis Institute of Music’s performances. Areas of focus include implementing a robust group sales program, institutional complimentary ticketing, and collaboratively growing audiences to support the wide variety of programming offered at Curtis.  

 

The Manager of Audience Development is accountable to achieve sales and attendance goals based on organizational needs and must meet deadlines outlined in marketing plans while providing efficient management of budget and resources. This position reports to and supports the Director of Constituent Engagement and will be measured on campaign results that successfully achieve the organizations goals.

 

Generating Earned Revenue and Growing Audiences

  • Collaborate with the Director of Constituent Engagement to create a patron retention and growth pipeline plan for all constituents
  • Execute and manage the patron retention and growth pipeline plan for all performances; including Rush and student tickets, Rewards Card Program, patron communications and audience experience
  • Manage Group Sales efforts from marketing tactics to implement engaging, high leverage campaigns that are efficient, cost effective, and targeted to grow audiences and revenue.
  • Collaborate to develop strategies for specific target group market will include the corporate community, out-of-town visitors, convention groups, school/university groups, professional associations, social clubs, and other local groups
  • Take initiative to revise and create new sales strategies to help achieve departmental goals.
  • Maintain performances pages on the Curtis website and liaise effectively with other departments to keep all performance information accurate and current
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications on advertising, promotional materials and placement, and communications to meet performance goals and metrics

 

Providing Front-of-House Leadership and Customer Service

  • Lead the Institutional Advancement Department’s patron care initiatives to align with Kimmel Center resident companies, providing regular institutional trainings and updates
  • Communicate effectively, not only with Curtis staff, on matters such as logistics in all channels of front-of-house with members of Kimmel Center, Ticket Philadelphia, Curtis trustees and high-profile donors, and all other presenting organization staffs
  • Train and manage volunteers to support performance Front-of-House needs

 

Data hygiene, integrity, and reporting

  • Support the Director of Constituent Engagement with aspects of the Alumni and Volunteers program, including complimentary or discount tickets, order mechanisms, and timely reporting
  • Monitor metrics from audience development efforts against key performance indicators and support Director of Constituent Engagement in report analytics in this area
  • Track and monitor relevant budget lines
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Education/Experience

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of group sales, marketing and membership, or other relevant experience.
  • Previous experience with an entertainment, attraction, or performing arts presenter highly preferred.
  • A passion for and working knowledge of classical music preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven track record in sales, with annual growth demonstrated in key areas of focus
  • Exceptional patron service and client retention abilities.
  • Capacity to manage up and down in a complex environment.
  • Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet simultaneous deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and capable of working a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a positive and collaborative demeanor.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 programs. Ability and willingness to learn other software programs as needed. Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge, Luminate Online, or other Blackbaud software is a plus.
  • Schedule flexibility to work nights and weekends for performances as required.
