Music/Choral Teaching Artist

FringeArts is seeking a music/choral teaching artist for an off-site partnership beginning January 2020 - March 2020.

FringeArts is piloting an off-site community engagement partnership with South by Southeast, a community arts and learning storefront site managed by Mural Arts Philadelphia. This partnership will provide musical enrichment and education to the Whitman neighborhood’s immigrant and refugee youth. FringeArts seeks a qualified, experienced music/choral teaching artist to build and teach a curriculum that meets the needs of Southeast by Southeast. Teaching artist will report to the Audience Engagement Coordinator at FringeArts, Tenara Calem.

Responsibilities include:

Planning curriculum with Southeast by Southeast Program Manager Melissa Fogg and FringeArts’ Audience Engagement Coordinator.

Teaching, leading class sessions, and executing curriculum for a diverse group of neighborhood youth ranging from Kindergarten to 6th grade.

Teaching artist and Southeast by Southeast staff can and may decide to incorporate a final showing of students’ work into the last planned class session.

Qualifications: the successful candidate for this position will have experience teaching music and/or choir to youth, in a variety of ages and settings, and building and teaching a pre-planned curriculum. The candidate will have a strong pedagogical and/or methodological approach. Experience working with children from immigrant communities and/or non-native English speakers, as well as trauma-informed behavior management is a plus.

Position: Candidates must be available on Wednesday afternoons from 3-5pm. Pay is commensurate with experience. Sessions run from January 2020 to March 2020.
