The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities

The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC), Cape May, New Jersey, is seeking a Director and Chief Executive Officer.  MAC is a multi-faceted non-profit organization that promotes the restoration, interpretation and cultural enrichment of the Cape May region for its residents and visitors.  Through its sponsorship of cultural and heritage tourism, MAC has helped transform Cape May from a “summer only” beach resort to the country’s leading Victorian theme destination.

The Chief Executive Officer reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

Key Responsibilities

The CEO has broad planning and leadership responsibility in providing a wide, expanding array of high quality cultural, historical and entertainment programs to the community and its visitors.

Ensuring the architectural integrity of all historically significant buildings and structures the organization provides stewardship over, including the Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May Lighthouse, and the World War II Lookout Tower.

Ensuring financial stability and integrity within the organization and protection of its assets.

Maintaining, enhancing, and building new strategic relationships and partnerships for the organization.

Representing the organization as MAC’s CEO, including attendance at major events sponsored by other community organization.

Collaborating in and supporting development plans for fund raising initiatives and key grant proposals.

Providing support to the Board of Trustees by giving timely and thorough reporting of essential information.  Responsible for analyzing and presenting management’s recommendations, assessments of key projects and initiatives, as well as opportunities and threats the organization faces.

Directing the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts.  Communicating financial performance versus budget.  Identifying and developing action plans to address financial risks and shortfalls.

As CEO, manage harmonious relations among all stakeholders including staff, volunteers, Board of Trustees, strategic partners, and community leaders, as well as elected and appointed officials.

Ensuring effective project management by helping staff to appropriately set priorities.

As CEO, providing periodic talent reviews of staff to the Board.

Qualifications

At the minimum, the successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university within the liberal arts or business disciplines.

A post-graduate degree within the field of history or non-profit management is highly desirable.

No less than three years of management experience within a multi-faceted and diversified organization.

Experience with development, analysis and communication of financial statements.

Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and drive for the effective execution of strategic plans.

Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Analytical, project and time management skills as well as the ability to anticipate roadblocks.

Compensation

Salary for the position will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications, to $100,000.

Total compensation includes a generous benefit package.

This if a full time salaried exempt position.  Some assignments might require working in the evenings or on weekends.
