Audience Research Associate

How You Will Contribute
Through collaborative cross-Museum teams, Audience Research challenges internal assumptions about audiences and their experiences to improve and expand our engagement with them. Our expertise in proven research methods uniquely qualifies us to test hypotheses and solutions, measure outputs and evaluate outcomes to facilitate visitor-oriented decision making across all platforms.

Reporting to the Director of Audience Research in the Membership and Visitors Services Department, the Audience Research Associate assists in the implementation of audience research and evaluation projects at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Audience Research Associate is responsible for the coordination and oversight of on-site and online survey operations. The Audience Research Associate plays an important role in data collection, management, and analysis, and supports the Director of Audience Research in the planning of quantitative and qualitative studies and reporting of findings.

Specifically, you will…

  • Support the Director of Audience Research in the planning of research and evaluation projects, including meeting with internal staff, developing research methodologies, and drafting procedures and protocols to execute projects
  • Plan and manage survey field schedule as appropriate to project goals
  • Oversee survey assistant staff (recruitment, training, coaching, scheduling)
  • Conduct on-site surveys and interviews with visitors
  • Create and manage field materials
  • Use web-hosted resource to create and deploy e-surveys
  • Conduct basic quantitative and qualitative analyses using MS Excel, MS Access, SPSS Statistics, and/or web-hosted tools as appropriate
  • Compile quantitative results and qualitative findings
  • Design/create accurate and clear data visualizations
  • Work with other departments to generate lists for e-surveys and to compile/maintain datasets benchmarking/tracking internal and external data
  • Data processing, cleaning and coding
  • Assist with report writing and proofing

Your diverse background includes…

  • B.A. or B.S., in a field related to social science research (e.g., psychology, education, statistics, anthropology, business, etc.)
  • Two years related experience in audience research and evaluation, visitor studies, and/or marketing research
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SPSS Statistics, or other statistical package
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including statistics
  • Strong qualitative skills, including ability to conduct structured and semi-structured interviews with visitors
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with minimal direct supervision
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interest in cultural organizations, non-profit organizations, leisure research, marketing research, and/or tourism
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
