Project Manager, Art Information Commons

How You Will Contribute
An innovative and passionate Project Manager who will work closely with the Arcadia Director of the Library and Archives and stakeholders across the museum, this position sustains the work and all workflows associated with planning the Art Information Commons. Project outcomes are to increase institution-wide efficiency in data management, provide access to the full range of art information resources stewarded by the Museum for both internal and external researchers, and to lay the groundwork for sharing collections data with other cultural institutions by adopting a linked data approach.

Specifically, you will:

  • Be responsible for day-to-day operational aspects of the project’s scope, implementation, and budget
  • Work with developer, taxonomist, consultant, Museum staff, and external advisory board to set goals and remove impediments
  • Develop project plans; work with stakeholders to revise plans as needed
  • Communicate relevant project information with internal staff, management and executive teams
  • Write and edit project documentation, reports, and present at various venues on behalf of the project to internal and external audiences
  • Develop and support an ongoing series of cross-departmental training opportunities and staff dialogue with advisors
  • Coordinate with appropriate project staff in setting up Advisory Board meetings, symposia, workshops, and Task Force meetings
  • Help develop recommendations to enhance digital workflows and sharing and creation of scholarly content
  • Build understanding and involvement across the Museum’s staff on the potential benefits and emerging best practices related to linked open data, the integration of collections information systems, metadata creation and management, and digital publishing

  • Clearly communicate technical topics to audiences of all levels of technical expertise
  • Ability to approach new challenges with resourcefulness, humility, and curiosity
  • Experience managing or mentoring disparate groups of colleagues in how to work together to complete great projects
  • Experience with change management for ensuring smooth transitions in organizational culture
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on training, rapport-building, listening and meaningful questioning
  • Strong writing skills
  • Experience managing complex projects or programs with multiple dependencies and occasional conflicting priorities
  • Demonstrable meticulous attention to detail
  • Willingness to develop (or already have) a knowledge of technology and information management concepts such as programming and web publishing languages, metadata, data formats (JSON, XML, etc.), and APIs
  • General understanding of museum and library databases, classifications, systems, and linked (open) data
