Director of Communication and Marketing

POSTION SUMMARY:

A dynamic communications professional to serve as an integral part of the Free Library of Philadelphia External Affairs team who will help raise awareness and build visibility for the Free Library and its Foundation through strategic communications and marketing initiatives.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee process for producing Free Library Foundation and Free Library marketing materials and campaigns, including print collateral (magazines, brochures, event calendars, etc), general and program-specific advertising campaigns, grant-funded marketing initiatives, development/fundraising pieces, digital campaigns and initiatives, and special event invitations, among others.
  • In support of these goals, manage a number of direct reports including the Production Coordinator, Senior Writer/Editor, and the Director of Social Media & Content Strategy. Serve as primary point-of-content for externally contracted communications professionals (advertising agencies, designers, etc)
  • Serve as lead project manager for communications initiatives in the External Affairs department, ensuring that all project deliverables meet timelines, budget, and outcomes/goals.
  • Work closely with colleagues from the Web Department to develop content for freelibrary.org
  • Work closely with Development colleagues on marketing and communications efforts to increase funding, including reviewing proposals and request letters, creating campaign and fundraising collateral, reviewing all direct mail, and crafting regular donor communications such as e-newsletter, leadership letters, and more.
  • In coordination with internal and external graphic designers, manage the aesthetic of the Free Library of Philadelphia brand, ensuring visual and messaging consistency across programs and platforms to create a unified “look and feel” for the Free Library of Philadelphia in everything from magazines and signage to branch program fliers and exhibition collateral.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English or a related field
  • Five to seven of communications marketing experience required. . Experience working in a non-profit setting desirable.   
  • Experience managing a team of communications professionals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High degree of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative on new projects.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks; proven track record of successful project management 
  • Ability to work with confidential information
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office required.
