Job Description

In this role, the Freelance Designer is part of a highly collaborative marketing team and will need to be comfortable starting with a strategic directive and advancing design to the point where s/he/they leads the brand vision across multiple deliverables. This role is mid-level (a minimum of 3-5 years of professional design experience) and is ideal for someone with a design background who is seeking flexibility and thrives in smaller studio environments.

Responsibilities

Handles multiple projects, ensuring high standards of consistency and clarity, while also pushing the boundaries to create innovative designs.

Coordinates and oversees all phases of production; responsible for the delivery of the final product to the proper department.

Interpret and create brand guidelines, with passion for consistency and originality.

Participate as a positive, productive part of a team but also be comfortable being self-directed.

Company photographer and lead photographic assignments as required. (Not required, but a plus.)

Attends initial meetings to develop creative visual design concepts/layouts for a wide variety of products (seasonal collateral, visual presentations, special projects, etc.) to communicate PTC’s message.

Initiates, executes and resolves issues with tact and professionalism.

Coordinates and oversees all phases of the printing and delivery or mailing of the final product .

Manages the inventory of all projects through the archiving of digital images by using G-Suite or other company archives.

Designs and configures pages for the web sites on an as needed basis.

Fulfills job duties and responsibilities in conformance with sound safety practices.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Proficiency in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, the email platform Wordfly and G-Suite.

Proficiency in the use of HTML and other basic knowledge of Internet related software.

Operational knowledge of digital photography using a SLR (single-lens reflex) digital camera and an understanding of digital capture and the digital archive process. (not required, but a plus)

Prior work experience in digital photography and/or editing (not required, but a plus).

Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, and to meet deadlines under pressure situations.

Ability to work independently.

Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Deliverables

The Freelance Graphic Designer works across departments including Marketing, Development, Literary and Education. Work product throughout the theatre season could include:

Promotional print materials for shows and the annual fundraiser e.g. postcards, posters, show programs, letterhead and envelopes, donor appeals and letters, invitations, lobby and exterior signage, etc.

Print and digital assets and ads for third parties including newspapers, discount platforms like Funsavers, Yelp, Theatre Philadelphia, Broadway World, TodayTix, digital marketing platforms, billboards, taxi tops, bus and subway stops, social media, online calendars/listings

Show-specific or institutional materials for internal use e.g. brochures, gift certificates, Playwise, tickets, a-frames, vinyls, window quotes, lobby signage, menus

Web assets (Wordpress, Flickr, Youtube), some website updates

Weekly email in Wordfly

Video content for an in-house screen

Additional Responsibilities

Possible participation in the creation of show art themes, possibly design the art, for 2019-20 and subsequent seasons

Brainstorming marketing ideas and attend marketing-related meetings

Maintain approval pipelines within distribution deadlines

Receipt/Invoice coding

Coordinate with Development Manager to ensure appropriate use of sponsors and funders’ logos and other donor recognition needs
