How You Will Contribute
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is seeking an organized and careful individual for a full-time position as an Art Handler/Packer. As a member of a very active Installation & Packing department, this position requires the installation and deinstallation of a wide variety of art objects (all media) throughout the Museum.
 

Specifically, you will…

  • Install and deinstall art objects (all media) throughout the Museum, Rodin Museum, and park houses
  • Receive and unload crates
  • Transport objects to appropriate storage areas, galleries, or the Conservation Dept./Photography studios
  • Assist in the Packing Shop, fitting and fabricating crates when needed
  • At times, act as leader of a project
     

Your diverse background includes…

  • Several years of art handling experience as well as some woodworking and shop skills are required
  • Technical ability to install art
  • Clear communication skills are a must as this job entails working with a team of other Art Handlers, Registrars, Conservators, Curators, etc.
  • Ability to problem solve and work well under pressure
  • Goal and deadline oriented, motivated, responsible and dependable
  • Ability to lift heavy crates and art, including paintings, sculpture and furniture
  • Ability to climb ladders and lifts to access certain works
  • Manual dexterity and extremely careful handling of delicate objects
