Writing and Research Specialist

The Wilma Theater seeks a full-time Writing and Research Specialist to work cross-departmentally and fulfill institutional writing and research projects throughout the organization.

The position reports to the Development Director with responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

  • Write foundation, corporate, and government grant applications, reports, acknowledgement letters, and additional correspondence as warranted;
  • Coordinate all components of application packets; communicate application needs to other staff members in a timely fashion;
  • Collaborate with Artistic Department to develop current language about projects with the Wilma HotHouse, and other project-based creative grants and donor requests;
  • Collaborate with the Education Department on language and assessment descriptions for education and outreach programs;
  • Manage Grant Calendar in Tessitura Database, communicating deadlines to Managing Director, Development Director, and General Manager;
  • Generate language for individual giving solicitation letters, acknowledgement letters, sponsorship requests, and future grant applications;
  • Conduct research through Wealth Engine, GuideStar, Tessitura, and other search tools to identify corporate, individual, and foundation prospects;
  • Ghost write for executive and senior staff members as needed;
  • Craft language for the Wilma’s strategic plan and capital campaign, including donor scripts, campaign marketing collateral, and materials to be presented to the Wilma Board’s capital campaign and strategic planning committees;
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Community Relations Director on press releases, website copy, and marketing copy for brochures, e-blast, invitations, and programs;
  • Develop copy, donor solicitations, and additional material about the Wilma’s annual Theater Lovers Fête fundraiser;
  • Serve as the primary copy editor and proofreader for all organizational communications;
  • Take minutes at all Board, Executive Committee, and Finance Committee meetings;
  • Assist with opening night, Theater Lovers Fête, and other event-related activities as warranted;
  • Perform additional functions as requested.

 

Excellent and efficient writing skills, keen attention to detail, composure in working to multiple deadlines, and active calendar management required. Previous grantwriting experience in non-profit performing arts, knowledge of Tessitura Software and research programs, and a passion for theater preferred. Salary low to mid 30s plus benefits.
