Net Tuesday: Social Media & Crisis ResponseMarch's Net Tuesday will be on "crisis response" (whether caused by nature or humans) and social media. Of course, this is top of mind today because of the disaster in Haiti — and because of the amazing creativity and energy of volunteers using social technology to respond. CrisisCamps are springing up all over, bringing people together to create and advance technological tools to help out. One example of this technology is the Extraordinaries "crowdsourcing" the identification of individuals in pictures from Haiti, helping families get information about their loved ones. Another is Ushahidi's Haiti incident mapping, allowing people on the ground to create real-time reports that help guide the delivery of humanitarian and medical services. Many other types of technologies have been developed in response to crises of various kinds.
