Business Books for Arts PeopleIn response to the success of a recent Intrinsic Impact event, supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Philadelphia Theatre Initiative (PTI) and the Philadelphia Cultural Management Initiative (PCMI), the next Book Group will focus on the research publication, Counting New Beans: intrinsic impact and the value of art. The publication explores the two-year study organized by Theatre Bay Area and conducted by research firm WolfBrown, the results of which were presented at the event by Alan Brown and Clayton Lord. The book focuses on narrowing the disparity between the art sector's measurement of the economic benefit of the arts and the intrinsic impact of the arts. Included in the publication are the results of the study, which focused on 18 theaters in six different cities around the country. The study of Philadelphia theaters, including Bristrol Riverside Theater, the Arden Theatre, and People's Light and Theatre Company, was supported by PTI, PCMI, and the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia. Join PCMI on June 11 to discuss the findings of the research and how they affect the presentation of art on a local and national scale.
Beverages and snacks will be served; feel free to bring your lunch.
Business Books for Arts People is an informal reading group. It meets occasionally to discuss popular business titles from the point of view of cultural organizations. There's no facilitator and no PowerPoints—just an energetic and free-flowing conversation among friends.
