President Calls for NEA Funding Increase

In the release of his FY2016 federal budget request on Monday, President Obama has proposed a $2 million increase for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

Americans for the Arts has noted that Congress may be amenable to this year's increase request, as that $2 million would include funds for expansion of the NEA's work with the arts and military.

The request also proposes dedicated funding for the Arts in Education program, and tax reform proposals which have the potential to impact charitable giving.

In other areas of the FY2016 budget proposal related to our sector, an additional $2 million has been requested for the National Endowment for the Humanities, and an additional $5 million for the Office of Museum Services.

We will be monitoring the status of these requests as the House and Senate consider the President's budget and make their own proposals, which must be submitted by April 15, 2015. Cultural Alliance staff will also attend National Arts Advocacy Day in Washington, DC,  from March 23-24, where Americans for the Arts and arts and culture advocates from across the country will gather to call for increased public funding and support for the arts.
