Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance

Today is the Day, Join us for a Mayoral Forum on Arts and Parks!

GroundSwell and the Philadelphia Parks Alliance will co-host a Mayoral Forum on Arts and Parks in the Montgomery Auditorium at the Central Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia. Registration begins at 5pm. Forum from 5:45-7:30pm.

Moderated by news anchor Steve Highsmith, the forum will allow candidates to address the role parks and arts play in the City of Philadelphia and how our sectors enhance the economy, environment and the quality of life of our residents. This a crucial election for our city in many ways, and tonight is your chance to hear from the candidates about how they plan to supports arts & culture and parks & recreation should they be elected mayor.

During the registration arts and culture advocates will rally with signs and calls to “Save PHL Arts” in protest of Mayor Nutter’s proposed FY16 budget cuts to the Philadelphia Cultural Fund. Demonstrators will be backed up by performances from student musicians in the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) Musselman Blues Band, and a puppet parade of performers from Spiral Q Puppet Theater.

As we gear up for the forum let us know what you want to hear from the candidates using the #ArtsParksForum. Following the debate we invite you to continue the discussion at our post-reception at City Tap House Logan Square.

We look forward to hearing from you tonight!
