Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance

Recap: 2015 Cultural Cabinet Annual Reception

On June 4, over 80 individuals, including civic and business leaders as well as representatives from Philadelphia's cultural sector, gathered for the the two-year anniversary of the Cultural Cabinet to celebrate the tremendous work accomplished in and for our region's cultural sector. The reception was held at the beautiful Center City home of Cultural Cabinet members Ajay and Pamela Raju.

Our special guests for the evening included former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, Pennsylvania State Senator Larry Farnese, and Philadelphia Councilman David Oh. We were also delighted to honor our 2015 Cultural Ambassadors Bob Capanna and Cathy Coate for their tremendous work in support of the cultural sector and to hear a wonderful performance by the Keystone Boys Choir.

The Cultural Cabinet has played a vital role in our policy and advocacy work over the past two years, and we hope to continue to engage this group more in the coming year. The following are some major highlights:

  • We kicked off year two of the Cultural Cabinet last spring at the home of former State Senator and current chair of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Connie Williams. Special guests included Rob Wonderling, president of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce; Susan Corbett; and Mayor Nutter.
  • In April, Cultural Cabinet members got an exclusive look at the Philadelphia Mayor’s race with political and media consultant Larry Ceisler.
  • We are currently advocating for Mayor Nutter and Philadelphia City Council to maintain the restored appropriation received by Philadelphia Cultural Fund last spring.
  • We will soon be expanding our advocacy efforts beyond government relations and grassroots organizing to include efforts to build supporters and champions with individual donors and the business community.
