Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance

Recruiting Cultural Worksites for the 2016 Bloomberg Arts Internship Program-Philadelphia

The 2016 Bloomberg Arts Internship Program-Philadelphia, a partnership between the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and WorkReady Philadelphia, will provide 50 incoming seniors at Philadelphia public high schools with six-week summer internships at some of Philadelphia’s leading nonprofit cultural institutions.

The goal of this program is to provide underserved Philadelphia youth with summer jobs and opportunities in order to gain marketable workplace skills at cultural institutions. During the pilot year of the program, 25 interns were given summer job opportunities at 16 arts and culture institutions. With the increase to 50 interns this year, that means we're looking for additional worksite partners, as well!

We will need approximately 35-40 nonprofit cultural organizations to open their doors to one or two interns this summer. Here is some information about the program, to help you determine if your organization is a good match:

  • Internships run from July 5–August 12, 2016. Prior to the start of the program,  interns will receive a comprehensive orientation about workplace behavior and an overview of the Philadelphia cultural community.
  • Internship supervisor(s) must attend an orientation prior to the start of the program (date TBD)
  • Interns will spend Monday-Wednesday working at your organization. On Thursdays, interns go on field trips to participating cultural institutions across the city, to learn about organizations and careers outside of their individual internship.
  • On Fridays, interns participate in a wide variety of professional development activities focusing on 21st-century skills like teamwork/collaboration, flexibility/adaptability, initiative/self-direction and productivity/accountability. Interns will also engage in writing and public speaking exercises in order to develop a presentation about their internship experience and career goals. Presentations will be given at a culminating event on the final day of the program, and supervisor(s) must attend their intern's presentation.

If your organization is interested in hosting an intern (or two), please contact Community Engagement Manager, Rashanda Freeman at rashandaf@philaculture.org or 215-399-3511.
