Things We Love: The A3C Action Competition for Creative Ideas Expanding Social Justice

The deadline to apply for it is coming up fast (this Sunday, July 24!), but we couldn't miss the opportunity to tell you about a really fantastic initiative out of Atlanta: A3C Action, a national competition (presented by A3C Festival & Conference and the Center for Civic Innovation in Atlanta) for creative ideas that use art, music, or hip hop culture to advance social justice.

Previous winners out of Philadelphia have included MING (Media in Neighborhood Group), which works to tell community justice stories through film. Their A3C Action idea was to connect local police officers with recently incarcerated youth for collaborative filmmaking projects.

Five finalists will be chosen for a business development and pitch boot camp at the A3C Festival & Conference in Atlanta in October (one of the largest hip-hop events in the world), and they'll be given a platform to pitch their idea to the expected 35,000+ attendees. The winning pitch will receive over $10,000 in cash and in-kind donations, and have access to additional business development, training, networking and partnership opportunities. For more information, visit www.a3caction.org.

At the Cultural Alliance, we believe that the arts are critical for humanity. Our work as a sector helps people understand and appreciate diverse cultures, express their feelings about injustice, and reach out and connect to the community around them. This competition is an amazing opportunity to advance a new idea, or any project you might already be working on in this arena that needs additional capital and development support.

We want to help with your ideas, too. If your organization is working on an ongoing social justice project or a response to #BlackLivesMatter, the tragedy in Orlando, or another one of the too-frequent crises and disruptions our world has experienced recently, send an email to editor@philaculture.org or tell us about it on Twitter @philaculture. Our staff will help determine how we can most effectively support and publicize your activities through our channels.
