Tell Your Legislators to Support Funding for the PA Council on the Arts

We need you to take action today, Monday, June 26. Please call your senator and representative and ask them to tell their caucus leader to include $9.59 million for Grants to the Arts through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) and $2 million for Historical and Cultural Support through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in the state budget.

The Cultural Alliance and our advocacy partners are asking you and other arts advocates across the state to take two minutes to make these phone calls today, as the final budget bill must be passed by both houses of the General Assembly and signed by the Governor by Friday, June 30.

When you’re ready to make your calls, find the custom arts advocacy phone call script below. You can look up your state senator’s and representative’s phone numbers on Committee of Seventy’s website. You can also read our guide to calling your representatives.

You can also send emails to your senator and representative using our online tool.

If you have additional time, please make phone calls to Senate leaders Joseph Scarnati and Jake Corman to ask for the restoration of the line items for Grants to the Arts and for Museum Grants, funded at the FY 16-17 level: Senator Scarnati 717-787-7084 and Senator Corman 717-787-1377.

Phone Script:

Hello! Thank you for taking my call. I'm a constituent from [CITY/TOWN] and I am calling to to ask the [senator/representative] to contact their caucus leader in support of a PA General Fund budget for FY18 that includes $9.59 million for Grants to the Arts through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) and $2 million for Historical and Cultural Support through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.  Do you know what the [senator/representative]’s position is on these two line items?

Thank you. As a constituent, I hope that the [senator/representative] will support a PA General Fund budget that includes this funding, which supports nonprofit arts and culture organizations across Pennsylvania. Those, in turn, generate over $2.5 billion in economic activity for the state and support 81,000 full-time equivalent jobs.
