Recapping the GroundSwell Instrument Donation Drive for Musicopia!

Our first action campaign has come to a close--and we're pretty pleased with the results!

The first GroundSwell action campaign, a February musical instrument donation drive for Musicopia's Gift of Music program, was a huge success!

Over the course of the drive, dozens of generous citizens donated a number of instruments, including 8 guitars, 2 recorders, 1 flute, 3 pianos, a five-piece drumset, 2 trumpets and plenty more. They're all sitting in the Cultural Alliance offices right now, awaiting pickup from Musicopia.

Musicopia will refurbish and distribute the instruments to schools in need.  We're very proud to have been "instrumental" in their mission to give the Gift of Music to Philadelphia and Chester-Upland students, which has already placed over 1,000 instruments and reached over 40,000 children statewide.

We're so appreciative of everyone who donated their discarded instruments and helped spread the word about the drive.  Our organizational partners Philadelphia Boys Choir, Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra and the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia pitched in by promoting the drive to their audiences with curtain speeches, e-blasts and social media, and Generocity and Philebrity both featured write-ups on GroundSwell and the instrument donation campaign which certainly helped expand our reach.  It was great to see so many people pitching in to "do something good for a change"!
