2018 - 2019 Project Stream Grantees

Congratulations to the 2018 Project Stream grantees! This year, 80 projects from the Greater Philadelphia region will be funded through over $95,000 in grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts' (PCA) Partners in the Arts program.

The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance is the regional partner administering the PPA Project Stream in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties with grants of up to $2,500 to eligible organizations and individuals.

2018-2019 Project Stream Grantees


Bucks County

Yardley Friends Meeting ($1,428)
Funding will support two days of programming with the folk/world music duo Simple Gifts.

Experience Yardley ($1,382)
Funding will support Music on Main, a 12-month series of 16 free public music and dance performances in three locations in Yardley Borough.

St. Philip's Episcopal Church ($1,382)
Funding will support two days of workshops, concerts, and outreach with the folk/world music duo Simple Gifts.

Bucks County Student Shakespeare Festival ($1,275)
Funding will support the Bucks County Student Shakespeare Festival, presented by Bucks County Intermediate Unit and the Arden Theatre Company in May 2019.

Quakertown Alive ($1,275)
Funding will support the 19th annual Arts Alive! Festival, which will include 50 juried artists, 10 authors and 4 food and drink vendors.

Cantus Novus ($1,259)
Funding will support the Cantus Novus 2018-19 season, consisting of three performances each of a Holiday program and Spring program.

Tim Farrell ($1,259)
Funding will support the Stretched Strings Concert and Workshop Series, a performance and education program exploring stringed instruments with an emphasis on the guitar.

Concordia Chamber Players ($1,229)
Funding will support three afternoon chamber music concerts at Trinity Episcopal Church and the two-day ChamberFest music festival.  

Michael F. Sherlock Foundation ($1,198)
Funding will support the 17th Annual Music Festival, a free concert in Morrisville's Williamson Park.

Palisades Community Chorus ($1,167)
Funding will support a performance of Haydn’s The Seasons, written for text from the British poet James Thomson.

Southampton Community Band ($1,029)
Funding will support the Southampton Band’s 21st performance season.

La Fiocco ($711)
Funding will Sarabande! The Baroque Dance Project, an interdisciplinary performance and education project on Baroque music’s historical and cultural context.


Chester County

Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital ($1,826)
Funding will support Art Ability, a year-round showcase and celebration featuring art and fine crafts created by artists with disabilities.

Uptown! Entertainment Alliance ($1,667)
Funding will support free or discounted community tickets for live performances at the Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center in downtown West Chester.

VoxAmaDeus ($1,648)
Funding will support a double presentation by the Ama Deus Ensemble of Handel’s Judas Maccabæus.

Linda Thies ($1,588)
Funding will support the annual Student Art Exposition, featuring artwork by K-12 students within a 30-mile radius of Kennett Square, PA.

Shandor Hassan ($1,469)
Funding will support a publication and public artist’s talk at Street Road held in conjunction with the installation The Dusta: American Matter.

Deena Ball ($1,429)
Funding will support Farm to Table Art, a cooperative project between artists, farmers markets and the Brandywine Conservancy to bring awareness through art of the natural resources and sustainable agriculture in the region.

La Comunidad Hispana ($1,251)
Funding will support a new metalwork commission by artist  Lele Galer for the Women’s Health Center.

Phoenixville Senior Adult Activity Center ($1,153)
Funding will support low-cost art classes in collaboration with the Phoenix Village Arts Center.


Delaware County

Media Arts Council ($1,681)
Funding will support the Media Youth Film Initiative (MyFi), a filmmaking and storytelling education program for area high school students.

Melmark ($1,535)
Funding will support Melmark’s arts therapy program, which use fine and performing arts as a creative and therapeutic endeavor for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Marcus Hook Preservation Society ($1,517)
Funding will support the Marcus Hook Pirate Festival and Encampment in Market Square Memorial Park.

Orchestra Concordia Association ($1,517)
Funding will support two free concerts at Radnor Middle School, featuring conductor Gary White and soloists from the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Carelink Community Support Services ($1,480)
Funding will support the arts program Building Community Through the Arts, which provides psychosocial rehabilitation services to adults living with a severe mental illness, intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.

Friends of Glen Providence Park ($1,304)
Funding will support an all-ages community concert series spanning musical genres from jazz to classical, world, and folk music.

Lisa Marie Patzer ($1,206)
Funding will support A Reasonable Expectation of Privacy, a traveling public art installation that takes place inside a 1960’s-style telephone booth.

Alphonse Lane ($987)
Funding will support four large-scale paintings of butterflies to be displayed in the Chester galleries at Art on Avenue of the States.

Main Line Singers ($987)
Funding will support Main Line Singers' fall concert at Saint Katherine of Siena Church in November 2018.

Kelly Music for Life ($914)
Funding will support the 4th annual Haverford Concert in the Park Summer Series, held in five different Haverford Township parks.

Sharon Hill Borough ($505)
Funding will support a community day and jazz festival in Memorial Park featuring live musical performances and craft displays from local artists.


Montgomery County

Friends of St. Paul's Elkins Park ($1,150)
Funding will support the annual concert season in the historic sanctuary of St. Paul’s Elkins Park.

ARTZ Philadelphia ($1,099)
Funding will support the ARTZ on the Road and ARTZ @ The Museum programs to bring professionally facilitated conversations about museum-quality works of art into the lives of people with dementia and their care partners.

Brush with the Law ($1,099)
Funding will support Brush With the Law’s programming that connects artists with communities, youth aid panels, rehab centers, county jails and other nonprofit organizations.

Senior Adult Activities Center of Montgomery County ($1,099)
Funding will support Art4ME, a free program for people in early stages of dementia and their caregivers designed to increase communication, quality of life and self-worth.

Borough of Lansdale ($1,086)
Funding will support the White’s Road Park Concert and Performing Arts Series, an annual event celebrating its 37th season in spring 2019.

Pulley & Buttonhole Theatre Company ($1,061)
Funding will support Pulley & Buttonhole Theatre Company’s 2018-19 season, featuring three plays from non-American authors with storylines that reflect upon the universal questions of belonging.

Jenkintown School District ($1,023)
Funding will support the art program at Jenkintown Middle School and High School to develop a variety of community-engaging public art projects.

Lansdale Library Association ($1,023)
Funding will support a engagements with the folk/world music duo Simple Gifts, featuring a community concert and outreach to three seniors' residences.

Night Music ($1,010)
Funding will support the production of Killer B’s: Music by Bach, Beethoven, Boccherini, and Brahms at Ardmore Presbyterian Church.

Variant 6 ($997)
Funding will support a program exploring the exchange of musical ideas across Europe in the seventeenth century and the influence of Italy’s musical style on France and Germany.

Applied Mechanics ($971)
Funding will support the production of We Are Bandits, a theatrical investigation of the troubled relationships between state and citizen, art and politics, women-aligned people and the public sphere.

Valley Choral Society ($971)
Funding will support Valley Choral Society’s choral for under-served audiences in Montgomery county.

Opera North, Inc. ($959)
Funding will support a series of mini operas produced and performed by students of Glenside Elementary School, led by composer Leslie Savoy Burrs.

Susanna Gold ($946)
Funding will support the designing and mounting of five exhibitions by curator Susanna Gold’s at the NºBA Artspaces in Bala Cynwyd.

St. Augustine Academy ($934)
Funding will support St. Augustine Academy’s tuition-free, arts-based, after school program serving 2nd through 4th grade female students in Norristown.  

Carrie Biegler ($933)
Funding will support artist Carrie Biegler’s photo exhibition The Strength Source Project on view at the Abington Art Center.

Pottstown Dance Theatre ($907)
Funding will support performances of choreographer Michelle Jones Wurtz’s New World to elementary schools in the Pottstown School District.

Academy Community Concerts Association ($869)
Funding will support a series of four classical music events presented to the public.

Pottstown Area Artists Guild ($505)
Funding will support the monthly lecture and demonstration series "Masters of Art: Lectures & Art Forums," which features presentations by national and local artists.


Philadelphia County

The William Way Community Center ($1,364)
Funding will support an exhibition of mixed-media artworks and archival material mounted in Archives Gallery at The William Way Community Center.

Project Capoeira, Inc. ($1,323)
Funding will support the Brazilian Day Philadelphia Series, featuring interactive performances of folk arts and cultural activities related to Brazil in a variety of locations around Philadelphia.

People's Emergency Center ($1,309)
Funding will support the annual Lancaster Avenue Jazz & Arts Community Festival, a one-day celebration of the city's jazz history and the continuing revitalization and history of West Philadelphia neighborhoods.

Lyra Society ($1,268)
Funding will support the Lyra Connect project, which encourages students to use their musical talents to improve the lives of the sick and elderly.

Philadelphia's Magic Gardens ($1,268)
Funding will support a series of neighborhood art events to engage with public murals by Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens’ founding artist Isaiah Zagar.

Philadelphia Waterborne ($1,268)
Funding will support a 20-week boat-building program at Richard Allen Preparatory Charter School in the Kingsessing neighborhood of Southwest Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation ($1,255)
Funding will support the Chinatown Storytelling through Visual Art project, a arts and storytelling program that increases the voices of low-income immigrant residents in placemaking.

American Composers Forum, Philadelphia Chapter ($1,241)
Funding will support a performance collaboration with American Composers Forum and JACK String Quartet.

Lightning Rod Special ($1,241)
Funding will support the production of Unformed Consent at FringeArts in March 2019.

Philadelphia Asian American Film & Filmmakers ($1,241)
Funding will support American Peril: Imagining the Foreign Threat, a three-week exhibition at Twelve Gates Arts that showcases South Asian and Middle Eastern Art.

Norris Square Neighborhood Project ($1,227)
Funding will support Semillas del Futuro (Seeds of the Future), a free in-school arts and social change program that serves 85 high school students annually.

The Artblog ($1,227)
Funding will support the New Art Writing Challenge, a free-to-enter, open-to-all juried contest designed to stimulate art appreciation demystify the process of art writing.

Baker Industries ($1,214)
Funding will support Baker Industries’ workforce development program that includes arts-integrated workshops, coaching, and counseling.

Natasha Cohen-Carroll ($1,214)
Funding will support the Mustard Seed Film Festival, which screens contemporary, socially-engaged films by South Asian directors that highlight marginalized voices.

Nora Gibson ($1,214)
Funding will support a new choreographic work created using sensor technology and specialized software designed for dome projection that will premiere during the 2019 Philadelphia Science Festival.  

The Renegade Company ($1,214)
Funding will support a community project with residents of the Riverwards neighborhoods to understand the challenges they face, including substance abuse, addiction and homelessness.

Thomas A. Edison High School ($1,214)
Funding will support an in-school theater program for special education students at Edison High School, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Shakespeare Company.

Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia, Inc. ($1,200)
Funding will support the Cultural Dance Program, which offers weekly lessons of Cambodian classical dance and a series of public performance showcases.

Erin Busch ($1,200)
Funding will support the Young Women Composers Camp, a two-week music composition summer camp for girls ages 14–19 at Temple Universiy.

Team Sunshine Performance Corporation ($1,200)
Funding will support the production of The Sincerity Project, a documentary-play that tracks the lives of eight theatre artists over the course of 24 years.

thINKingDANCE ($1,200)
Funding will support the Engaging Young Writers project, a dance criticism and appreciation program for bilingual writer ages 12 and under.

We Are the Seeds ($1,200)
Funding will support We Are the Seeds’ project Celebrate Indigenous, an afternoon of indigenous art and culture in February 2019.

Philadelphia Youth Dance Festival ($1,186)
Funding will support the Philadelphia Youth Dance Fest, an annual pre-professional dance festival designed to share, unite and celebrate dance in a supportive and professional atmosphere.

Project HOME ($1,186)
Funding will support Project HOME's art program, which offers people who are homeless, living in extreme poverty or with mental illness a safe and nurturing place for creative self-expression.

Collaborative Cataloging Japan ($1,173)
Funding will support the Japanese Expanded Cinema Exhibition, which will present historic Japanese experimental multi-channel installation works.

Crossroads Music ($1,173)
Funding will support Crossroads Music’s 2018 concert season at Calvary United Methodist Church in West Philadelphia.

Juniper Productions ($1,173)
Funding will support the production of Cocktail Plays: Round Two, a set of four original 15-minute plays by Philadelphia area playwrights.

Moonstone Arts Center ($1,173)
Funding will support the New Voices: Philadelphia’s Emerging Poets program, which connects high school and college students with the larger Philadelphia poetry community.

The Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium ($1,173)
Funding will support the production of Tennessee Williams' The Eccentricities of a Nightingale at the Bethany Mission Gallery.

The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble ($993)
Funding will support The Lady Hoofers’ Outreach Residency Program, which provides free tap dance classes and tap shoes to 5th grade students at John Moffet Elementary School.

The Project Stream and Program Stream grants initiative is made possible through the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency. They are funded by the citizens of Pennsylvania through an annual legislative appropriation, and administered locally by the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
