Future Leadership Program

Philadelphia has been selected as one of six cities to partner with National Arts Strategies (NAS) to host their new Future Leadership™ program. Future Leadership is a pilot program aimed at supporting the next wave of arts and cultural executives and is made possible through exclusive funding by the American Express Foundation. This program helps arts, culture and preservation professionals refine their leadership skills to take on top executive positions over the next five to seven years.
The Future Leadership program is a fellowship program that provides selected participants with attendance at a one-day leadership development session, connection to a national network of Future Leadership Fellows, and access to management expertise and advice from National Arts Strategies and the NAS network for a year.
Each selected participant in the Future Leadership program will receive a fellowship covering the full tuition for the leadership development session of $500. Participation in this program will be decided through an application process and is limited.
Who should apply for a Future Leadership Fellowship:
- Current mid-career professionals, who have spent 5-15 years in the field already
- Those who are 5-7 years from primary leadership role
- Those with some experience in managerial roles, including supervising others
Preference will be given to:
- Senior-level executives
- Those who currently have direct reports or manage other people
Future Leadership Fellowship Requirements:
- All accepted fellows MUST attend Sustainable Power and Influence leadership development session on Thursday, November 5, 2009 in Philadelphia.

National Arts Strategies’ Future Leadership™ program is made possible through exclusive funding by the American Express Foundation. One of American Express' three platforms for its philanthropy is Developing New Leaders for Tomorrow. Under this initiative, which recognizes the significance of strong leadership in the nonprofit sector, American Express is making grants to train high potential future leaders to tackle important issues in the 21st century.
