5-CAF Final Report

Pennsylvania Council on the Arts

April Williamson
Government Relations Manager

The Cultural Alliance is pleased to announce April Williamson’s new role as Government Relations Manager. In this recently created position, Williamson will administer the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) Project Stream and Program Stream grant programs. Additionally, Williamson will continue to maintain the important relationships with legislators that she developed in her five years as the Alliance’s Advocacy Coordinator.

Williamson joined the Cultural Alliance’s staff in 2001. As Advocacy Coordinator, she monitored local, state, and federal legislation and policy issues related to arts and culture; cultivated relationships with legislators, political staff, and advocacy representatives of member organizations; coordinated direct lobbying efforts such as legislative visits and rallies; and wrote arts and culture policy articles for the Arts & Culture Advocate, the Alliance’s quarterly newsletter. Williamson has played a key role in the Alliance’s successful campaigns to preserve public funding for the arts at the city and state levels, including the campaign to Save Philadelphia Cultural Funding, which restored 80% of Philadelphia Mayor Street’s proposed $4.4 million cut to arts and culture funding in Philadelphia’s FY2005 budget. She is a 2006 graduate of the Urban Leadership Forum, a program of the Urban League of Philadelphia. Williamson received an MS in arts administration from Drexel University and a BM in jazz voice performance from Temple University.

April Williamson can be reached at aprilw@philaculture.org or 215-557-7811, x11.
